This time it was a game winning field goal by Kansas City kicker Ryan Succop as overtime expired. Some people like to focus on the positive side of things, things like: "they're competing week in and week out" or "3-4 plays turn out differently and this team is 4-3" or "at least the offense is better." Me on the other hand, I am a realist. As Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris said last week: "Stats are for losers." The bottom line is, this team has the talent to win football games. Should they make the playoffs? No. But should they be 0-7? Absolutely not.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_TvZbaZZigpw/TM7LRIIR9XI/AAAAAAAAABk/xqEPLw217fo/s1600/buffalo-bills-chan-gailey-pictured-the-sidelines-during-third-quarter-action-against-the-miami-dolphins-ralph-wilson-stadium-orchard-park%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_TvZbaZZigpw/TM7LRIIR9XI/AAAAAAAAABk/xqEPLw217fo/s200/buffalo-bills-chan-gailey-pictured-the-sidelines-during-third-quarter-action-against-the-miami-dolphins-ralph-wilson-stadium-orchard-park%5B1%5D.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>If you want to know where to place the blame. Look no further:<br />
<br />
It's obvious from watching this team that Chan Gailey at least sort of knows what he's doing when it comes to offensive production. He's done something Dick Jauron could never do which is make players out of Roscoe Parrish and Stevie Johnson. And I will also give him that the team has been far more productive ever since Ryan Fitzpatrick was inserted into the starting lineup and Trent Edwards was released. But that just leads me to my first point about why I am wary of Chan Gailey. <br />
<br />
<strong>1.</strong> At the conclusion of training camp Chan Gailey decided that Trent Edwards gave this team the best chance to win football games. Since when has Trent Edwards EVER shown that? I find it hard to believe that Edwards was that much better than Ryan Fitzpatrick in training camp; especially considering how well Fitzpatrick is playing right now. You know, the guy with the #2 passer rating in the entire league. Edwards was so incredibly bad he was benched after 2 games and then released. But .... he gave this team the best chance to win games coming out of training camp. YEAH ... OK.<br />
<br />
<strong>2.</strong> At some point in time you just have to find a way to get your team "over the hump." This is the 5th game this season that the Buffalo Bills could have easily won. Miami was a 5 point loss that more than likely would have been a win had Trent Edwards not started (back to point #1), New England was essentially losing for 3 quarters and we gave up the win, Jacksonville was losing 13-3 before we imploded in the 2nd half as usual, Baltimore, once again a just before halftime and 3rd quarter implosion leads to a loss. Buffalo's defense basically held Baltimore scoreless in the 1st and 4th quarters and we still found a way to lose. Which brings me to the worst loss of all:<br />
<br />
<strong>3.</strong> Buffalo had SO MANY CHANCES to beat Kansas City yesterday and just failed at every turn. Near the end of regulation, a great punt return by Roscoe Parrish gave the Bills the ball at midfield with timeouts to spare and about a minute on the clock. Buffalo gets a 1st down and has the ball on the KC 43 yard line, 1st down. Instead of just trying to get 6-7 yards to get into FG range, Gailey calls a pass play. The ball slips out of Fitzpatrick's hands and is intercepted sending the game into OT. Why are you even throwing the ball when you're just about in field goal range? All you need is a FG to win. It's not like scoring a TD there is going to get you 5 wins. Then, on the Bills' 2nd possession of overtime, Fitzpatrick took the team from their own 7 yard line, down to the Kansas City 44 yard line; essentially on the verge of Rian Lindell's FG range. All they really needed was again another 6-7 yards for a makeable field goal. Even in that wind Lindell can make that kick, which he proved later in OT. Instead of just running the ball 3 times to try and get 7 yards (which ANY NFL team should be able to do) Gailey calls 3 straight passes, incomplete, incomplete, 3 yard gain, and then punts the ball for a net gain of 20 yards. It's a roughly 55 yard attempt. YOU ARE 0-6 JUST KICK THE FIELD GOAL AND TRY TO WIN. <br />
<br />
Chan Gailey showed me there that he was afraid to lose the game. At 0-6 he was afraid to lose. You will never succeed in sports if you play to NOT lose. And when you're already 0-6, you're just compounding the problem. Then, to cap it all off, when the Bills were given new life after Ryan Succop missed a 39 yard field goal, Fitzpatrick again took the team to the Kansas City 42 yard line, 1st down. 1:30 left on the clcok, Kansas City has no timeouts remaining. Instead of once again running the ball, getting into Rian Lindell's field goal range and MORE IMPORTANTLY running the clock out on Kansas City, Chan Gailey again called 3 straight pass plays. Incomplete, incomplete, intentional grounding. Which in turn put Buffalo out of field goal range and forced them to punt it back to Kansas City, who then drove the field in about 1 minute and kicked the game winning field goal as time expired. Why in God's name would you give Kansas City a chance to get the ball back? If you run the clock out and attempt a field goal, you either win, or the WORST case scenario is you miss and you tie. Instead, you gain negative yards, punt the ball back to them, and then lose the game when for the 3rd time in 15 minutes, all you needed to do was get anywhere from 6-10 yards and you probably win. <br />
<br />
The end game/overtime decision making was just HORRENDOUS by Chan Gailey and reminded me so much of the Dick Jauron era that I wanted to vomit. I hope this was just a bad day for Gailey and the Bills and not a continuing trend. But when that's all you've witnessed for the past 10 years, it's hard not to think the worst. <br />

A Buffalo Bills QB (Ryan Fitzpatrick) threw for over 300 yards in a game; 374 to be exact. It was the first time such feat had been accomplished since it happened 59 games previous to that. Fitzpatrick also threw 4 touchdowns on the day as well as the Bills played well enough to win, but once again got jobbed by the officials. But that's not what this post is about. What it is about is, what do the Bills do now?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://beat.bodoglife.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ryan-fitzpatrick.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://beat.bodoglife.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ryan-fitzpatrick.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Fitzpatrick is playing like an absolute man amongst boys out there this season. He's currently 2nd in the entire NFL is QB rating behind only Peyton Manning. He's tied for 4th in the league with 11 TD passes despite only playing in 4 of the teams 6 games. Basically he's doing everything Trent Edwards could never do. He's going out there, unafraid and throwing the ball; and he's doing it VERY effectively. He's easily the best QB we've seen in a Bills uniform in 10 years. Which leads me to my ultimate question/dilemma and reason why I posted this to the blog: What do the Bills now do about their draft selection in the upcoming 2011 NFL draft?<br />
<br />
Ralph Wilson has already come out and stated the problems this franchise currently finds themselves in are his fault, and that the team needs a franchise QB and that GM Buddy Nix was going to spend the next few weeks scouting the top college QB's. Which would lead one to believe that Ralph Wilson wants his team to draft a QB in April. But if Ryan Fitzpatrick keeps this up, how can you justify taking a QB with your #1 overall selection (top 5 pick) when your QB is 2nd in the league in QB rating and CLEARLY isn't the problem? As crazy as I'm about to sound right now, Fitzpatrick is everything you want your QB to be. He's fearless, he's smart (Harvard grad, killed the wonderlic), he has decent size, he's only 27, he's mobile, and he's the ultimate team player. Yes I realize that Andrew Luck could be great, but for every Peyton Manning in the NFL draft, there is a Ryan Leaf. <br />
<br />
It is clear that right now, the reason this team is losing football games is because of the defense. The defense is putrid, which is shocking considering how great our secondary was last year. They just physically can not stop anyone at this point in the season. I'm sure it has something to do with the scheme change, new defensive coordinator, blah blah blah. But at some point you have to look at the real issues, which are, guys just aren't performing and we don't have playmakers in the KEY spots. This defense is in DIRE need of linebackers, and defensive linemen. Buffalo has given up an average of 36 pts per game in their past 5 games. This team needs defensive help, DESPERATELY.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://blog.al.com/press-register-sports/2009/09/large_MarcellDareiusceleb.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="http://blog.al.com/press-register-sports/2009/09/large_MarcellDareiusceleb.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> Chan Gailey has proved to be the offensive mind we were told he was thus far. He has the offense scoring about 27 pts per game since Fitzpatrick took over for Edwards, which should be enough to win most weeks in the NFL. He has Fitzpatrick doing what Edwards could never do; throw the ball downfield to your big player receiver Lee Evans. Evans has 17 catches and 4 TD's since Fitzpatrick's take over vs. 4 catches and 0 TD's with Edwards. My point is, come draft day, I pray that Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey sit down and decide that this team needs to trade down a few picks, acquire more picks, and draft defensive players (and offensive linemen). Someone like Marcell Dareus immediately comes to mind. <br />
<br />
While I wouldn't be UPSET persay if they drafted Andrew Luck, I'm not sure I would be happy. Drafting a franchise QB seems like a great idea when you're winless, but really ... what more could Andrew Luck do than what Ryan Fitzpatrick is currently doing to get this team winning football games? The losses fall on George Edwards and the defense. <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-7522356530070258729?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Shue Boxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05372190337923792955noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-41412304940582879562010-10-20T23:56:00.005-04:002010-10-21T00:45:11.147-04:002010-10-21T00:45:11.147-04:00Random ThoughtsFirst thought: I need a beer, or ten.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:100%;">Good news today, the Sabres woke up and beat someone. The won 4-1 tonight in Atlanta, a team who historically we either do one of two things: lose to them, or beat them 8 - 0. It was a good win for the boys tonight. Vanek scored, <a href="http://www.buffalosportsdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Cody-McCormick.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 134px;" src="http://www.buffalosportsdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Cody-McCormick.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Ennis got one, Myers got one.. and Cody McCormick? Yes, Cody McCormick is now tied for 2nd on the team with 2 goals on the season. It was a stroll in the park for Miller, who didn't see a shot until almost 15 minutes into the game. Now the challenge is to string a couple of these performances in a row.. like 10 or so, because 2-4-1 through 7 games isn't really that good.</span><br /><br /><br />Second Thought: The virtual Tom Brady is just as annoying as his real life counterpart.<br /><br />I seriously think it is physically and emotionally impossible to hate something as much as I hate Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the entire New England Patriots organization (Teddy Bruschi is one of the most bias people on SportsCenter today. I hate him about as much as I hate Brady.). Let's just say I'm not applying for any jobs with the Patriots or New England Revolution anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Now, I know that ShoeBox hates the Jets and their fans, and believe me, I do too. But the Patriots take the cake. It's probably because they just destroy the Bills every time they play them. <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2008/0228/pg2_g_milloy_600.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 100px;" src="http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2008/0228/pg2_g_milloy_600.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div> Or I haven't seen the Bills beat the Patriots since I was 14 years old. My bet is it's one of those reasons. I even hate the Patriots on Madden. I played them tonight, and I literally did everything I possibly could to hit Tom Brady as much as possible. It's bad when you reach the point where you try everything possible to injure a person's image on a video game, right?<br /><br /><br />Third Thought: HALLELUJAH MARK SCHLERETH!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><object style="background-image: url(http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/DlLjPswUfRs/hqdefault.jpg);" width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DlLjPswUfRs?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DlLjPswUfRs?fs=1&hl=en_US" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold;">Can I get an AMEN?!!?<br /></div><br />In my opinion, hits the nail on the head. Chances ESPN had any idea he was going to go off like this? 0%? Jabs at soccer, use of an iPad, calling for two hand touch football on Sundays, and my favorite part, jabs at the Patriots. He used the full bag of tricks for this one. I wonder if Apple will use this clip for there next commercial? National Hypocrite League? Everything he said is completely true. The only hit that should've been fined was the Meriweather hit. The others were all football plays. Every single one of them. NFL, let's be honest here, you have more than proved your point about making your players become more accountable for their actions (see Vick, Michael; Roethlisberger, Ben), this is just taking everything way too far. Let the players play, don't fine them for playing football the way it is supposed to be played.<br /><br />Final Thought: This post would've been a lot funnier if I had those beers in me.<br /></div></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-4141230494058287956?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>hillofaguyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10131792671523710915noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-67647004685328484072010-10-20T10:51:00.001-04:002010-10-20T14:17:58.394-04:002010-10-20T14:17:58.394-04:00Poor Jaguars FansSorry this is a little late .. but I've been a tad bit busy. Anyways, on to the post:<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.buffalorising.com/trent_edwards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="200" src="http://www.buffalorising.com/trent_edwards.jpg" width="133" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I still have a job? Seriously?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>The Jaguars organization and their fans got their first taste of what us Bills fans have been complaining about for 3 years now on Monday night; Trent Edwards. Or should I say, Trent Edwards' horrific play. In one half of football Trent Edwards managed to sum up his entire NFL career thus far. 14-24 for 140 yards, 2 INT's, a 40.3 QB rating, running out of bounds in situations where you have nothing to lose by just throwing the ball, and of course ... getting injured. This guy is just so petrified to take a shot downfield it is remarkable. In 35 career games he has NEVER had a 300 yard passing game; something even J.P. Losman managed to do on accident on 2 seperate occasions. This kid is just awful, whoever it was that decided the Jaguars should waste a roster spot on him, is more than likely the same guy that decided David Garrard was a franchise QB .... FAIL. <br />
<br />
I sincerely feel bad for Jaguars fans .. if they even exist. At this point the thought of a "Jaguars fan" seems kind of like a mythological creature. You know .. like the centaur or something. But in any event, if they do exist .. I feel bad for them. I'm sorry that you guys have to now witness what we've been suffering through for quite a while now. I wouldn't wish that on anybody .. except for maybe Jets fans. But hey look on the bright side, at least your team has 3 wins I guess? Ugh ... has basketball season started yet?<br />

That has to be the explanation. Derek Roy must not like it though. Defensive lapses (Darcy Reiger was on the radio today, he said the defense has been decent, more worried about the offense), lack of goals (9 in 5 games), and a horrible powerplay.<br /><br />Here in Buffalo, many people ALREADY want to trade Vanek, Connolly, Stafford, Miller, basically anyone not named Tyler Myers, Tyler Ennis, or Derek Roy. These people are the same ones who think Miller isn't good, and the Sabres won't win a Stanley Cup with Tim Connolly in the blue & gold. Don't get me started on the idiot that writes for the Buffalo News, Jerry Sullivan. He has about as much brains as a cast member of the Jersey Shore.<br /><br />Here's the deal people. The season is 5 games old. Yes, the fact that they've lost 4 straight at home is very disturbing, but they do have time to turn things around. Hell, they only need to get to 8th place. Ask the Flyers and the Canadiens how that worked for them last season. Like Darcy said in the interview on WGR 550 this afternoon, they need time to jell. There are new parts to this team, and it may take some time to adjust to a lot of things... playing in Lindy's system, the environment in Buffalo, the people around them, etc.<br /><br />All the Sabres need to do is WAKE UP. Vanek will go nuts soon. He always does. He has games where he can never seem to get a break, then he will go on a terror where he scores 4 or 5 a game for 3 games. Connolly hasn't played well at all. He's in a contract year, you think he's going to play like crap the entire year? Pommers will be back in a week or two, Ennis will get one soon (one of the few Sabres who looked like they were trying tonight). Many of the goals against the Sabres this year were bad bounces (I.E. the one of Butler's skate), but those can be stopped with better play in their own end.<br /><br />My point is, calm down, it's an 82 game season. People need to slow down & realize this: the Sabres have more wins than the Bills.<br /><br />Sabres 1, Bills 0.<br />Suck on that, Bills.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-4205704078261114145?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>hillofaguyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10131792671523710915noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-14703790380417075492010-10-14T23:31:00.000-04:002010-10-14T23:31:15.963-04:002010-10-14T23:31:15.963-04:00AFC East MascotsIn honor of everybody in the AFC East being competent besides the Buffalo Bills, I figured I would do the one thing that would make Buffalo successful in comparison to the rest of the divison. What's that you might ask? It's a side by side by side by side comparison of the 4 mascots of the AFC East Division teams! I'm not going to waste any time, let's get right into it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.reaperchopperscanada.com/images/billy-buffalo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="http://www.reaperchopperscanada.com/images/billy-buffalo.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><u><b>Billy Buffalo:</b></u> His name is appropriate to that of the team, he's HUGE, he's a buffalo, he rides a chopper. Honestly, what's not to like? Alright outside of the fact that he's blue. But he is a mascot, so I guess there had to be at least one ridiculous aspect to his get up. But all in all, he's a solid mascot in my opinion. Not too ridiculous looking, but not lame either. I can remember when the Bills first introduced him; he used to throw Flutie's Favorite Subs into the crowd every once in a while. He was BA then, and he's BA now. I just wish he'd make like a real Buffalo and charge someone every once in a while.<br />

Where to begin with this one, where to begin? Well I guess I could start with the fact that he has a helmet on that is about 4 sizes too small for his head. Which is fitting because that's the same way Chad Henne wears his helmet too. He has no hands (which I guess is appropriate) so that's got to be hell on whoever is actually IN the mascot costume. He has to wear that thing on Sunday afternoons in Miami, FL. You couldn't get me to wear that thing in 95 degree heat if my life depended on it. You're lucky if I put pants on period down here it's so hot. This truly has to be the worst NFL mascot outfit for the guy INSIDE it. And lastly, he represents the biggest oxymoron in all of sports. He's the mascot for the Miami Dolphins, a team that uses a porpoise as their logo and mascot. So I guess his name should actually be "T.P." which seems a little more appropriate for the way the Dolphins play at least. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://slanchreport.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/pat-the-patriot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="http://slanchreport.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/pat-the-patriot.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><u><b>Pat the Patriot:</b></u> Wow. First of all, what is on his arms? It looks like something Captain America would've worn .... if Captain America were partaking in the gay pride parade in NYC. And what's up with that hat? I'm pretty sure that at no point during the history of the United States did anyone ever wear a hat that looked like that, and if they did .. well ... NYC. But the strangest thing about this mascot in my opinion has got to be the fact that he looks like the offspring of Quagmire from Family Guy and Stan from American Dad. I have to say, what in the hell was Robert Kraft thinking when he approved this? If I were a Pats fan I'd almost rather just have a Ben Franklin look a like walking around the field or something. I mean at least he invented bi-focals.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/12/31/alg_jets_fireman_ed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/12/31/alg_jets_fireman_ed.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><u><b>Fireman Ed:</b></u> Which brings us to the worst of the bunch, Fireman Ed. I'm not even really sure what this costume is supposed to be? I mean all he has on is a Jets jersey and a fireman's hat. Seems more like the beginning of a porno than a mascot costume to me. His redundant spelling exercise gets pretty old pretty quickly as well. I bet this guy must feel like the most important person in the world when he gets those other 82,565 people to chant that along with him. Little does he know that the rest of the sporting world laughs at him every time he does it because generally he makes a face much like the one he's making in this picture upon completion. Look at him, he looks so excited you'd think his team just won the Superbowl or something. The last time they did that was 42 years ago, kind of like the jersey he's wearing. Hmm .. maybe Ed has a sense of humor?<br />
<br />
Thoughts anyone? Feel free to comment on how lame you think Fireman Ed is too.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-1470379038041707549?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Shue Boxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05372190337923792955noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-29290244644988213392010-10-12T21:56:00.005-04:002010-10-14T09:56:42.316-04:002010-10-14T09:56:42.316-04:00Ryan Miller Would Be a Great Politician.<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Basically, Ryan Miller should run for President. Okay, well maybe just focus on New York governor (he would already be better than the jokes we have running now). I love the comments he made, all of which were spot on and 100% true. Miller, Pominville, Roy, Vanek, Connolly, etc have been together for over 5 years now, people should stand up for their teammate/friend.</div><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/files/original/RM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="133" src="http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/files/original/RM.jpg" width="200" /></a>If you haven't seen or heard the comments made by Millzy regarding the hit on Jason Pominville last night against the Blackhawks, here's a <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/sabres/2010-10-12-miller-comments-pominville-hit_N.htm">link</a>. Oh I can't wait until these two teams play again... it's on Saturday! I have a feeling there might be some words/fists exchanged. I already heard a rumor that Pat Kaleta & Pat Kane did such a thing at Sunset Bay Beach Club in Buffalo earlier this summer. Don't quote me, just a rumor i read/heard today. (PS Kaleta, these next stretch of games would be a perfect opportunity for you to score 4 or 5 goals.... someones got to make up for Pommers, who by the way, will miss his first NHL game Wednesday when the Devils come to HSBC Arena. It will effectively end his consecutive games played streak at 336 games.)</div><br />
The hit was dirty. Like Millzy said, there really is no place for it in the game, no matter if you were trying to make a play or not. It deserved a 5 minute major & game, as what was handed out. The Sabres never recovered. They lost 4-3, and many players were visibly shaken on the bench after the hit, and even after the game in the locker room. For those who may have missed it, here is the hit.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><object height="425" width="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z_twXZeZUr0?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z_twXZeZUr0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Can we also notice that the first Buffalo Sabre to start beating the crap out of Hjalmarsson was Tim Connolly? TIM CONNOLLY? Good for him, he should start doing that more often. Then again, no, just focus on scoring/setting up goals. I have a strange and sad feeling that Pommers wont be the same after this.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">To the Blackhawks announcers, coach, and anyone who has/had no problem with this. Switch the players around, you would react the same way us Sabre & hockey fans are today. Thank you Ryan Miller for speaking out against hits like these. He's right, there is no place for them. Ever.<span style="font-size: 85%;"><span class="long-title" dir="ltr" id="eow-title" title="NHL 10/11/10- Niklas Hjalmarsson boards Jason Pominville and gets 5min major for Boarding"></span></span></div></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-2929024464498821339?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>hillofaguyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10131792671523710915noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-68940637386632665272010-10-12T13:31:00.004-04:002010-10-14T09:58:07.307-04:002010-10-14T09:58:07.307-04:00Syracuse Football: 4-1?!<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">For the first time this century, the Syracuse University football team has started the season 4-1. Granted 2 of the wins came against FCS teams Maine and Colgate, but this is still a great accomplishment for a program that has been mired in mediocrity (and that's being extremely generous) for years now.</div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="188" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-jBoonhKJtU/SXYzmaYNe0I/AAAAAAAAACI/GcyvKU0Mdzo/s200/Greg+Robinson.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="200" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Rawr, I'm intimidating!</td></tr>
</tbody></table> <div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">But what's even more impressive than the 4-1 start is <a href="http://www.harrisinteractive.com/vault/BCS_Oct_10_2010.pdf">THIS</a>. If you look all the way at the bottom, under the section that says "Others Receiving Votes," right there with 4 votes you will see .... that's right ladies and gentlemen: Syracuse! When was the last time Syracuse Football was even mentioned in the same breath as the Top 25, let alone receiving votes from people? This is an extremely impressive turn around (thus far) for Coach Doug Marrone. Marrone was entrusted last year with the task of untangling the absolute MESS that Greg Robinson created in his time here at Syracuse. Something Michigan fans are beginning to notice, much as we did. It's sad to say but Greg Robinson just really isn't qualified to be a football coach, at any level.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://static5.echalk.net/www/hillside_district/images/spruilljpg-987b924c06f94996_large.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="181" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Spruill, Spanish for Beast.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Doug Marrone is getting solid, underrated recruits on both sides of the ball. He's created a tough, physical defense that absolutely stymied USF; a team that has dominated SU since they joined the Big East. Players like Freshman Marquis Spruill, Philip and Shamarko Thomas are all solid players that have a chance to be very good. Ryan Nassib has the potential to be the best QB we've seen in a Syracuse uniform since Donovan McNabb graduated. Bottom line: Marrone is slowly but surely changing the culture here at SU from one of losing and unaccountability, to one of winning and responsibility. With a legitimate chance to make and win a bowl game this year, Marrone has the opportunity to present Syracuse fans with something they we seen since 2001; A WINNING RECORD. A winning record and a bowl win would be an absolutely astounding feat when considering the state of the program when Doug Marrone took over, and the short period of time in which he would be able to accomplish this <br />
All of this just goes to show you that maybe Dr. Darryl Gross got it right this time after all. After the win against USF this past Saturday, in the post-game news conference, Doug Marrone had a hard time containing his tears. Somewhere in Michigan, Greg Robinson was doing the same thing, but for an entirely different reason.<br />

<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We're about to see a lot more of this I'm sure.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">If true, I'm not condoning Favre's actions by any means. But this entire situation begs the question: What are the motives behind this? Let's put everything into perspective here. Brett Favre apparently sent voice mails and text messages (and pictures) to a Jets reporter/employee that were "inappropriate" back when he played for the team .... IN 2008. As I said before, I'm not condoning Favre's actions in any way, but why is everyone acting like Favre is the only one who did something wrong here? Why is no one questioning the New York Jets, or this employee; Jen Sterger (who by the way was in Playboy). Not that being in Playboy makes her a terrible person or anything, just thought it was worth noting. In any event, doesn't anyone find it the least bit curious that this story is just NOW coming out, on the eve of Brett Favre and the Vikings getting ready to play the New York Jets? I certainly find it a bid odd.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And does no one find it curious that this woman (Sterger) for some odd reason saved voicemails/texts/pictures that Brett Favre sent her, 2 years ago? Why would you hang on to things like that? Unless you were planning on using them at a later date (blackmail, lawsuit, etc.) what reason would you have to save them if you were uninterested? This entire situation just REAKS of fishyness on the Jets' part in my opinion. Did he do it? Probably. But why come out with this NOW? Why not come out with it when it actually happened? I just don't get it I guess. Maybe this chick is hard up for cash or something, who knows.</div> <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">What I do know is, this entire story has angered me on more than one level. Not only does it make the douchebag meter go up on Rex Ryan and the New York Jets, but it also leaves me even more upset with the Sports Business World. All this girl did in her life, was get picked out of a crowd by a camerman at an FSU game because of her looks, and all of the sudden she is completely engrained in the sports world. She gets to write columns for Sports Illustrated online, she gets a job with an NFL franchise, she hosts a Sports show on Versus, hosts ABC's Race to March Madness, and all FOR WHAT? SERIOUSLY, FOR WHAT?! Just because of this girl's looks she gets ENDLESS job opportunities in the Sports field. She got her degree from Florida St. in CRIMINOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY! It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with sports. The extent of her knowledge on sports is that she is a FAN, and she was spotted in the crowd of a game presumably because she's good looking and probably had half a shirt on. </div> <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just looking to get ahead in life.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>This is the type of thing that drives me absolutely BAT SHIT CRAZY. This girl, with no experience in the sports industry and a degree in a completely unrelated field gets numerous job opportunities. Meanwhile, hard working people like myself and others that I graduated with get NO opportunities what so ever. Even though we've graduated with degrees in Sport Management and worked countless athletic events and internships in numerous fields. I apologize to the working world that I wasn't born a woman with a huge chest and good looks. This embodies everything that is wrong with this country in my opinion.<br />
<br />
People will take this the wrong way I'm sure and this post was not meant to discredit her, or take away from her accomplishments in any way. I'm sure that she is a hard worker and is doing what it takes to make it in the field. This is more a reflection on how fickle we are as a society that she receives opportunities that people like myself don't based clearly on her looks and nothing else. If she was so keen on working in sports, she would've gone to school for something sport related, or at the very least journalism/broadcast journalism. I know not many people will read this, and probably even fewer people will care. But this is just the kind of thing that makes my blood boil. Thanks America, I love you too. <br />

I just have one question: What in the holy hell does Trent Edwards' intel consist of?<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/403/649/104273140_display_image.jpg?1285001842" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="161" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">On his knees, as usual.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Through the past three seasons I haven't seen ANYTHING from Trent Edwards that gave me ANY indication that he understood how to run an offense. The extent of Trent Edwards' "intel" as far as the Buffalo Bills offense is concerned is, "Fred Jackson is open 2 yards downfield." I'd also like to know, what was it about Trent Edwards' career that made the Jacksonville Jaguars feel as though he was a capable NFL QB? Was it the fact that he's thrown more INT's than TD's in his career? Or maybe the fact that in 3+ NFL seasons he's never had a 300 yard passing game (something even the lowly David Garrard has done 5 times). Or maybe it was just his boyish good looks? I guess we'll never know.<br />
<br />
<span id="goog_1305342704">What I do know is; I am deeply saddened and upset by the fact that I now live 90 miles from Trent Edwards. I thought when the Buffalo Bills cut him that I rid him from my life forever, but no, of course not. I just can't get away from this guy. He's the bane of my existence. I am literally sitting on my couch right now PRAYING that Trent Edwards somehow gets into the game today and that the Buffalo Bills defense just absolutely decapitates him (personal foul or not). The only way that situation could be any better was if the severed head of Trent Edwards flew into the crowd, knocking unconscious an inexplicably present Dick Jauron. Which in turn somehow sent the entire universe into a black hole of time reverting us back to the year 1990, where in Scott Norwood kicks the ball exactly 3 feet further to the left. Hey, we all have dreams.</span><br />

Today, the University of Connecticut admitted that their men's basketball program <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5662321">committed major NCAA rules violations.</a> This is in no way, shape, or form surprising considering their head coach is the one and only Jim Calhoun. 1. Back in the Summer of 2005, Connecticut guards AJ Price and Marcus Williams were caught and convicted of Larceny in the theft of laptops from other student athletes at UCONN. Most normal schools would've kicked said players off the team and probably out of school all together; but not UCONN. Calhoun suspended both players for the year .... and then let them both back on the team after that. Some people might say, "but they served their punishment," .... garbage. The Spring before this incident, UCONN expelled guard Antonio Kellog for Marijuana possession and assaulting a police officer. What does this have to do with the Marcus Williams and AJ Price case you might ask? Well .. first of all, it shows what kind of a ship Coach Calhoun is running here; pretty much a minimum security prison. But secondly, it shows that Calhoun is willing to throw the book at a player when he has little to no impact on his team. But a player like Price or Williams who have a large impact on the team .. no worries, they'll be back at some point.<br />
<br />
2. Calhoun has a history of berating officials, screaming obscenities, and just being an overall tool shed. A few years ago, UCONN Athletic Director Jeffery Hathaway received an e-mail from a long time season ticket holder of the Men's Basketball team at UCONN. The ticket holder was writing the Athletic Director to complain about Calhoun's behavior and language. The ticket holder held tickets about 5 rows up behind the UCONN bench and held such tickets for quite some time. He had recently begun to bring his small children to the games, and had started to notice a trend he never noticed before; Calhoun's douchebag behavior. He politely requested that Mr. Hathaway speak with Mr. Calhoun about his language/behavior because he enjoyed attending UCONN Men's Basketball games, and wanted his children to be able to share in the experience as well. Guess what happened next? The following season, said Season Ticket Holder's tickets, were no longer behind the UCONN bench. They were moved to the upper deck, and this was not a voluntary move. Long story short, Jim Calhoun is once again a douchebag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>3. In 2005, one random night I was in the poker room at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. I was watching a rather large limit table in action (20/40) and noticed someone sitting at the head of the table that I swore I recognized from somewhere. After about 15 minutes of staring at this guy, I finally realized who he was. Yes, he was the one and only Josh Boone, from the UCONN Men's Basketball team. Of course, how could I ever forget the size of that schnoz.<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b3/Josh_Boone_NY_Nets.jpg/220px-Josh_Boone_NY_Nets.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="141" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I made more at UCONN.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
This led me to my next question: Where in God's name does Josh Boone, a college student, get the money to play 20/40 poker? Does ANYONE here believe that Josh Boone is just that good of a poker player that he somehow built up a big enough bankroll to play 20/40 poker? Because I sure as hell don't. If that wasn't reassurance enough for me that Jim Calhoun was running a shady ship, nothing was going to be.<br />
<br />
4. Which brings me to today's news. You might say "kudos to UCONN for admitting that their Men's Basketball Program committed NCAA rules violations" but then you'd completely miss this beauty of a line: "But the university says the evidence does not support the NCAA allegation that coach Jim Calhoun -- who has won two national titles with the Huskies -- failed to promote an atmosphere for compliance." Really UCONN, really? How DID Calhoun promote an atmosphere for compliance when his coaches were, making improper phone calls and text messages to recruits and giving away free game tickets to high school coaches and others. You're either in compliance, or you're not, and UCONN was NOT. The way this college continually sticks up for Jim Calhoun's douchebag behavior boggles my mind. What's even WORSE is UCONN's self imposed punishment of 2 years probation and 1 scholarship lost for the next 2 seasons as a way of trying to avoid an NCAA sanction. Give me a break UCONN, man up to your mistakes and accept whatever punishment the NCAA feels fit. Your beloved douchebag coach put you in this position and now you have to live with the consquences.<br />
<br />
In my opinion, it's all finally starting to catch up to Calhoun and UCONN. With an unimpressive 18-16 record last season, and a piss poor recruiting class in 2010 (by Big East standards) it's only a matter of time before Calhoun hangs 'em up (for fear of looking bad). Until then, U-C-O-N-N, YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK.<br />

I'll give you a hint: the Sabres have a better shot at making the Finals than Drew Stafford does at scoring 30 goals.<br /><br />During the off season, the Sabres really did basically nothing. Out are Hank Tallinder, Toni Lydman, and Tim Kennedy. I thought people in Buffalo were going to kill Darcy for buying out Kennedy. Apparently he was God's gift to Earth & the next Gretzky, I guess I don't see it. In come veterans Jordan Leopold, Shaone Morrisonn, and Rob Neidermayer. In my opinion, upgrades across the board. Granted, they got a little older, but this team was too young anyways. Guess what?! They actually have a player who has won a Cup and knows what he is doing! Remember the last time that was true (hint, Chris Drury). That alone should be exciting.<br /><br />Nuts & Bolts: The forwards are pretty much the same, finally no more Adam Mair or Matt Ellis (sent to Portland). In come Tyler Ennis, Nathan Gerbe, and Cody McCormick. Ennis has potential to score 30 goals a season for the next 10 years. I see him as a version of Danny Briere. Small, quick, great hands. All the things you look for in a man, right? Speaking of men, or lack there of, Drew Stafford needs to basically shape up or ship out. What a waste of a first round pick he has turned out to be. Can't score, can't play defense... sounds like Max Afinegenov. The Sabres still don't have a number 1 center, but depending on his play, Tim Connolly can fill this void. Him or Derek Roy, if Roy decides to grow up. Vanek is Vanek, Hecht and Mike Grier will be your solid defensive forwards with 30 goals between them. My wildcard this year (besides Ennis) is Pat Kaleta. This guy is the new Sean Avery with a mix of Rob Ray. No, he won't fight, or at least not that often, but he is hated by everyone outside of Buffalo. Best part, he scored 10 goals last year in 50 or 60 games. I know that is one thing he has been working on since he became a regular, but it should be interesting to see if he can outscore the likes of Drew Stafford, Paul Gaustad, or Mike Grier this season. I think it's possible.<br /><br />The defense, the weak link, improved this summer. Morrisonn is a better verison of Tallinder and will be that stay at home defenseman that will let Tyler Myers go out and destroy the NHL. Jordan Leopold is extremely underrated, however the only thing that scares me is his injury history. Look for Craig Rivet to come back strong this season following his shoulder surgery. I know he wasn't happy with his play this past season so he will be looking to do better this season (especially with the hints of this being his last season in the NHL). Beyond that, its a crapshoot. Steve Montador will play all 82 games for the Sabres, but the last spot will be up for grabs between Chris Butler, Mike Weber, and Andrej Sekera. Gut feeling is one of these guys will be traded during the season.<br /><br />Ryan Miller is still the best goalie in the NHL and that is really all I have to say to make my point here. Oh, Patrick Lalime is backing up again.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fQKfFKr-M7g?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fQKfFKr-M7g?fs=1&hl=en_US" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /></div><br />My Prediction: I think the Sabres will win the Northeast again. Although Boston improved a ton in the offseason, so they are the only ones who really scare me. Toronto is trying, Ottawa isn't, and Montreal is still there, but with no goalie. At the very least, the Sabres will be in the playoffs for the second straight season, and everyone knows that anything can happen then (example, Boston, Montreal, & Philly). Sabres got new uniforms this season (again, 5th year in a row) that now make them the best dressed in the NHL.<br /><br />As always LETS GO BUFFALO!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-7104177740283415130?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>hillofaguyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10131792671523710915noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-6790126315973081112010-10-06T21:09:00.000-04:002010-10-06T21:09:04.118-04:002010-10-06T21:09:04.118-04:00Meet the New 22: JoJo Marasco.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.laxlessons.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/jojo-e1286374992592.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br />
</a></div>Congratulations go out to JoJo Marasco on earning the right to wear the 22 this upcoming season for the <a href="http://suathletics.com/index.aspx?path=mlacrosse">Orange Lax</a> Team. JoJo is following in the footsteps of SU greats such as: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHLuTYLY73M">Cody Jamieson</a>, <a href="http://www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/NCAA+Division+Lacrosse+Championship+Championship+R66EsaMtSaUl.jpg">Dan Hardy</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9Zytgixk6g">Mikey Powell</a>, <a href="http://blog.syracuse.com/orangelacrosse/2008/06/medium_usacasey">Casey Powell</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um4oeksGW54">Ryan Powell</a>, and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzZAxyYUzws&feature=related">Gary Gait</a>. What does all of this mean? Oh not much, outside of the fact that my buddy's got a lot to live up to. But if anybody is up for the challenge it's JoJo. The pride of Somers, NY tallied 17 points as a Freshman last year in just 10 games, and will look to expand on those numbers this year.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The new QB.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>With the departures of Seniors: Chris Daniello, Cody Jamieson, and Max Bartig; JoJo will be counted on to do a lot of the scoring for the Orange this season. Along with Seniors: Stephen Keogh, Josh Amidon, Jeremy Thompson, and Joel White. The Orange will once again start the season (and finish it) ranked amongst the top teams in the country; as they look to rebound from a disappointing finish against Army in the Carrier Dome last season during the NCAA Tournament. <br />
<br />
You can't of course win them all, even though we sure try (and most of the time succeed) up on the hill. In my opinion, a return to glory should be in the cards this season for the SU Men's Lax team. After all, when you've got guys like JoJo Marasco leading your team, only good things can happen. Congratulations again JoJo, and good luck this season. And lastly, Go Orange!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-679012631597308111?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Shue Boxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05372190337923792955noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-19779957541928755722010-10-06T11:31:00.000-04:002010-10-06T11:31:17.722-04:002010-10-06T11:31:17.722-04:00Lynch trade now looks that much better.The Patriots traded <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=1433">Randy Moss</a> to the Vikings today for a 3rd round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. I really don't understand this trade from a Patriots stand point and if I were a Pats fan, I'd be pretty upset right now. The Patriots just traded away their best WR, a first ballot hall of famer, for a 3rd round pick. They essentially traded away any chance they had of winning the Superbowl this year for another draft pick. Sure they're going to have 2 picks in every single round in the 2011 NFL Draft, but still. The NFL and it's fans are all about "what have you done for me lately," and lately, the Patriots just traded away any chance they had this year.<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="126" src="http://www.opposingviews.com/attachments/0009/4361/randy-moss.jpg?1286334345" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="200" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Straight cash homie.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
The Patriots WR core now consists of: Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Darnell Jenkins, Tyree Barnes, Taylor Price, Matthew Slater, and Shun White. Outside of Welker, none of these names are really striking fear into the hearts of opposing CB's and Defensive Coordinators.<br />
<br />
What's my point in all of this? The Buffalo Bills' trade of Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks just looks that much better now in my opinion. The Bills traded Lynch for a 4th round pick this year, and a conditional pick (5th or 6th round) in the 2012 draft. Sure Lynch is much younger than Moss, and maybe it's a valid argument that Moss is entering the downside of his career. But you can't ignore the fact that Moss still put up 1,264 yards and 13 TD's last year compared to Lynch's 450 yards and 2 TD's. When comparing the 2 players, there really is no comparison. Lynch is a 24 year old RB, it's pretty much become commonplace that NFL RB's fall off the table once they hit the age of 30 (If they've been starting since entering the league that is). It only stands to reason that Lynch should not be an exception to this rule, ESPECIALLY when taking into consideration his running style. Where as a player like Moss has spent his entire career essentially avoiding contact by just running by people and catching a whole mess of TD's. A style of player that is much more conducive to a long and productive NFL career.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="125" src="http://www1.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/San+Francisco+49ers+v+Buffalo+Bills+2W_Q7uHB4KKl.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="200" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Taking a pounding, as usual.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Moss should have no trouble playing another 3-4 seasons as a very productive WR. Where as, who knows what Seattle is going to get out of Lynch. A player who in my opinion (as stated in my previous post about him) has largely disappointed since he entered the league; whether it be ON the field, or OFF the field. Bills fans, you can complain about it all you like, but getting 2 picks including a 4th rounder for Lynch, was a steal. Stop thinking about WHERE he was drafted, and start thinking about WHAT he's done in this league; which isn't much. Also, keep in mind, just because the Bills traded Lynch for a 4th round pick, doesn't necessarily mean they're going to draft someone with said 4th round pick. They could package the pick to move up to a better pick in the draft. Just something to keep in mind when you're crying about how you can no longer wear your Marshawn Lynch jersey you spent 50 dollars on. <br />

Yes that's right, another year of watching the Buffalo Sabres demolish everyone in the regular season and then choke in the playoffs! No I kid, but seriously, you want to know what the difference is going to be this year? Look no further than this: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ410r-y-_o">Ryan Miller Commercial</a><br />
<br />
Great commercial and great goalie (if not the best). I just wish for once that Darcy Regier and Larry Quinn would get some legitimate defensemen in front of Miller so he didn't have to make 50 saves a night just to give us a chance to win.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.penshiremedia.com/storage/Ryan%20Miller.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1234311521478" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="143" src="http://www.penshiremedia.com/storage/Ryan%20Miller.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1234311521478" width="200" /></a></div>Ryan Miller is in my opinion the best goalie in the league. Sure he gives up the occasional softy, but I mean come on, he is consistently night in and night out the best player on the ice for the Sabres. He is the Jim Kelly of the Buffalo Sabres basically. I just pray that before he is gone, we can do what we never did for Dominik Hasek which is win a Stanley Cup. It's something that not only the Buffalo Sabres need after that BS debacle in the '99 against the Stars. But it's something that the city of Buffalo desperately needs. Between THAT, and the 4 consecutive Superbowl losses for the Bills, this city and these fans deserve a championship more than any other sport in America. And there's really no debating that. All that I have to say is, "LET'S GO BUFFALO!" Oh and "NO GOAL!"<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-6565627007645285710?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Shue Boxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05372190337923792955noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-26512056991452511532010-10-05T15:11:00.000-04:002010-10-05T15:23:40.593-04:002010-10-05T15:23:40.593-04:00Bye Marshawn.Citizens of Seattle, Washington: please look both ways before crossing the street. The Buffalo Bills have traded Willis McGahee .. I mean Marshawn Lynch to the Seattle Seahawks today for a 4th round pick in the upcoming draft and a conditional pick in the 2012 draft. A pretty good trade for the Bills if you ask me. It forces Chan Gailey to get Fred Jackson (who was clearly the better back last year) and our 1st round pick CJ Spiller on the field. Bills fans will undoubtedly complain that the Front Office did not get enough for Lynch, but what do you really expect?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://thebiglead.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/marshawn-lynch-arrested-255x300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://thebiglead.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/marshawn-lynch-arrested-255x300.jpg" width="170" /></a></div>You're talking about a guy that:<br />
<br />
A. Had 450 rushing yards last year.<br />
B. Has had numerous off the field problems in his time in Buffalo.<br />
C. Never lived up to the billing of being a great pass catcher coming out of college.<br />
<br />
Don't get me wrong, I think Lynch is a good back, but he suffers from the same symptoms that plagued Willis McGahee in his time here in Buffalo. He just dances from side to side instead of going forward and hitting the hole (except Willis didn't have any trouble hitting the hole ... if you know what I mean). Marshawn is like a 235 pound load, his strength has always been that it takes more than 1 guy to tackle him. Therefore it would only stand to reason if he just hit the hole hard and ran forward, he'd probably be a really good back. Instead, the only way Marshawn ever seemed to crack 100 yards rushing was if he somehow miraculously broke off a long run (which rarely happened). I'm sure most Bills fans aren't aware of this but ... Marshawn Lynch only had six 100 yard rushing games in his entire career in Buffalo. 6 .. out of 46 games. And he hasn't cracked 100 yards since 2008 either.<br />
<br />
Fact is, Fred Jackson is a better back, and a better pass catcher as well. And Spiller, well he's the exact opposite of Lynch, a homerun hitter. Which was evident by his kickoff return for a touchdown against New England. The Bills need to get him on the field and hand him the ball. Hopefully now that Lynch is gone, we'll see Spiller in the backfield a little more.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7990283744324749868-2651205699145251153?l=cusesportsguy.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Shue Boxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05372190337923792955noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990283744324749868.post-76979072787455775912010-10-04T23:20:00.000-04:002010-10-05T11:56:00.431-04:002010-10-05T11:56:00.431-04:00Chad Henne's Hand?I dare anyone to attempt to explain to me what it is that led to Chad Henne doing this with his left hand when he throws a football. Seriously, please comment and attempt to explain. I mean, what is he even doing with that thing? Outside of practicing for his next profession of being a waiter of course. The Bills may be a terrible joke of a professional football team right now, but at least our QB doesn't look like this when he throws the ball:<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://www.palmbeachpost.com/multimedia/dynamic/00450/henne800_450103c.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="155" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Can I get a refill please?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>So we've got that going for us I guess?<br />
<br />
Speaking of the Dolphins, as if it wasn't bad enough that their official team colors are "teal" and "salmon" why did they feel the need to make their helmets so glittery? Every time I watch the Dolphins play I feel like I'm watching a terrible unfunny live version of a Lisa Frank notebook or something. I mean seriously, can you think of a professional sports team with uglier uniforms than the Miami Dolphins? Sadly the uniforms have only become uglier over the years too. If I were a Dolphins fan, I would much prefer to watch my team lose in the old school uniforms. At least those were a mostly ambiguous white and not so much teal ... and of course the ever so popular salmon. <br />
<br />
Although my hatred for the Dolphins runs deep, I must say, it is nice having some company at the bottom of the AFC East. Thanks Miami, you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like. Please make yourselves at home, because you're probably going to be here a while (especially once the Bills draft Andrew Luck). Here's to hoping for a 1-15 season Bills fans. The 1 of course being the New Jersey Jets in the Meadowlands.<br />

Sorry to disappoint any Jet fans that may happen to read. More or less I am too lazy to update with pictures and spruce the blog up, but I will eventually. That being said ..</div><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://www.gayonaccident.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/mark-sanchez-jets-gay.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="161" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes Jet fans, that is your QB.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Is it possible that Mark Sanchez (and the entire New York Jets team for that matter) could be any MORE of a tool? After the Jets thoroughly romped the Bills today, Sanchez unleashed this gem: "Even now, I think we still feel like we could be 4-0, it's frustrating. We still want that first game." Seriously? Maybe you lost that game because you played like complete GARBAGE. 10 of 21 for 74 yards .. yippee. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">But seriously, I just can't see why everyone is all over this guy's crap like it doesn't stink? He's a very inaccurate passer (53.8% last year and right on pace this year), he plays the most vanilla scheme in the world because his team has the best O-line and arguably best running game in the league, and he's got a defense that's pretty much second to none. He had 28 turnovers last year and it's only a matter of time before he starts turning the ball over this year as well. Maybe he'll turn out to be a good player, maybe he won't. All I know is, I've never seen a player who led the league in INT's the previous season and pretty much looked like garbage the entire year be SO hyped. The Jets will continue to win football games but make no mistake about it, it won't be because of Mark Sanchez, it will be because of that defense and that offensive line. Hell, even Trent Edwards would be successful behind that line. Ah who am I kidding?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Aaron Maybin might as well pull a Chad Ochocinco, and change his name to Erik Flowers. Flowers was arguably the worst 1st round draft pick in the history of the Buffalo Bills franchise, but Aaron Maybin is quickly catching and surpassing him. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/asu/sports/m-footbl/99-00roster/p-flowers-eri.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/asu/sports/m-footbl/99-00roster/p-flowers-eri.jpg" /></a><a href="http://www.mynfldraft.com/players/Aaron%20Maybin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.mynfldraft.com/players/Aaron%20Maybin.jpg" /></a></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In his 19 games in Buffalo Maybin has amassed an eye-popping 23 total tackles, and 0 sacks. Drafted as a supposed "pass rush specialist" so far Maybin has looked about as much pass rusher as tackling dummy. I mean, the kid gets manhandled on every single play; and then celebrates on plays where he gets credit for an assisted tackle 10 yards downfield. Even Flowers had better statistics in his time in Buffalo. Flowers had 4 sacks through 2 seasons. Maybin is on pace for .... oh yeah .. zero. If you're wondering why it is the Buffalo Bills can't get out of this rut that they're currently in, look no further than draft choices like this guy:<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/2009+NFL+Scouting+Combine+Day+5+t8v7R0xmC1Nl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/2009+NFL+Scouting+Combine+Day+5+t8v7R0xmC1Nl.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This is an NFL defensive lineman.
